Flowers of field, summer, light, Impressionism Maya Kopitzeva (Gagra, Georgia 1924 - St. Petersburg 2005) Maya Kuzminichna Kopitzeva was born in 1924 in Georgia, but already the following year the family moved to St. Petersburg. from 1941 to 1945 he completes the cycle of artistic studies at the Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1946 he attended the prestigious Repin Institute of St. Petersburg under the guidance of Boris Fogel, Leonid Ovsiannikov and Alexander Zaytsev, graduating in 1951 with Boris Ioganson. In the same year he became a member of the union of the artists of St. Petersburg. from that moment on, an intense production activity begins, characterized in particular by still lifes and scenes of daily life, and exhibition at home and abroad. Among the numerous official awards, in 2001 he was awarded the title of emeritus artist of the Russian Federation. Maya Kopitzeva is considered one of the main representatives of the Leningrad painting school and among the brightest Russian post-impressionists of the second half of the twentieth century. Particularly significant in its artistic path is the period spent in Uzbekistan due to the transfer of the Academy to Samarkand during the II World War. The unusual living conditions, the singularity and beauty of Uzbeka architecture were undoubtedly impressed in the memory of the young painter, as well as the stay at the academic Dacia near Volochek in the Tver 'region (1953), where the authentic began flowering of his pictorial talent. In his works, in fact, both the meaning of the colors and decorations of Islamic art assimilated to Samarkand and the echo of an uncontaminated and lively nature known during the permanence of the painters of the painters are found. And "very lively" are paradoxically his still lifes, because they do not fall into the narrow frames of the genre. Never scenic and of this pictorial and poetic power to be aroused, despite the compositional rigor hidden behind an apparent randomness, sensory impressions of particular vitality. The viewer will be affected by the overall originality of the composition and by the combinations of decided colors, strengthened by thick dynamic brushstrokes. The museum and exhibition center "Peterburgskiy Khudozhnik" of St. Petersburg has dedicated an important and wide retrospective to Maya Kopitzeva from 20 October 2020 to 10 January 2021. Musei Moscow, Ministry of Culture St. Petersburg, Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts Krasnoiarsk, Museo delle Fine Arts Novgorod, Museum of Fine Arts Novosibirsk, Vologda Fine Arts Museum, Museum of Modern Art Ivanovo, Museum of Fine Arts Kaliningrad, Museum of Modern Art The works of Maya Kopitzeva are treated permanently by the Art Gallery Pirra and are published in color on monographs curated by the gallery.
