Dating back to the late 19th or early 20th century, these expressive sculptures represent Kala Doota—the legendary mythic guardians and messengers of time and protection in traditional Indian folk-lore. Characterized by their highly dramatic, stylized features, deep-set eyes, and a permanently clasped spherical orb in their wide-open mouths, these figures served as powerful threshold talismans (Nazar Battu).

They were originally integrated into the entryway pillars or inner courtyard verandas of a historic Rajasthani estate (Haveli) to ward off negative energy and welcome good fortune.What makes this collection exceptionally valuable is the complete set of four.
