Crafted from walnut and … Read more A beautiful and complete antique Swiss spinning wheel, dating to the 18th or early 19th century. Crafted from walnut and fruitwood with an extensive use of turned components throughout — the spokes, spindles, uprights, and legs are all examples of fine hand-turning at its best.

This wheel is complete: the large spoked drive wheel, the spindle and flyer assembly, the distaff arm with its original brass-ringed cup, and all three bobbin rods (40", 33", and 27.5") are all present. Many antique spinning wheels have lost these components over the centuries — a complete example like this is significantly rarer and more desirable.

Acquired in Switzerland in the 1940s this piece has been in my family for nearly a century.

Whether displayed as a statement piece of folk art or used by a fiber artist, this wheel draws the eye and tells a story.
