Folk-art tourist attraction sign. Early 20th-century hand-painted canoe-rental sign, painted wood with original hanging rings. The construction is genuinely old rather than artificially distressed.
• Hand-painted wood construction.
• Rough-sawn plank approximately 36" × 3.5" × 0.71", measured with hanging loops.
• Iron hanging rings are old and hand-forged or blacksmith-made.
• White-painted background with heavy age crazing and weathering.
• Hand-painted canoe graphic and lettering.
• Single-sided.
• Significant shrinkage cracks and edge wear from long outdoor exposure.
A 5-cent canoe ride would generally fit 1890s–1920s most comfortably. Possibly still plausible into the early 1930s. Less likely after World War II. Circa 1900–1930 with the strongest probability around 1910–1925.
Good original condition for outdoor folk signage. Long cracks through the board, heavy paint loss, end splitting, general outdoor wear.
Authenticity: Nothing suggests a modern decorative reproduction. Shows natural shrinkage. Has age-consistent oxidation on the iron loops. Displays paint craquelure and wear patterns consistent with age.
Measures approximately 36”x 3.5” x .71” and weighs 31.3 ounces.
