This exceptional pair of antique Neoclassical style covered garden urns is masterfully crafted from heavy cast lead, displaying the timeless elegance and substantial weight highly prized in estate-grade garden ornamentals.
Each urn is designed with a classic campana shape, featuring an elaborate tier-domed lid topped by a decorative finial. The upper body is adorned with elegant vertical fluting and a central classical medallion drop. The most striking feature of these pieces is the exquisite figural handles: two beautifully sculpted, seated cherubs (putti) flank the sides of each urn, perched gracefully on scrollwork supports as if keeping watch. Rich, high-relief swags of harvested fruits and blooming flowers drape across the belly of the urns, bridging the space between the cherub figures and symbolizing abundance.
The urns are supported by a decorative, reeded socle neck that flares into an acanthus-leaf detailed round foot, all resting firmly on a solid, square plinth base. The natural properties of the lead have allowed these pieces to develop a spectacular, authentic weathered character over decades of exposure to the elements.
