Signed and dated (1970) lower right, signed and dated again on the reverse of the canvas
Size: 70.5 x 100.8 cm (without frame) or 76 x 106 cm (with frame)
The painting was likely part of the solo exhibition at the Institut français (Schörnborner Hof), Mainz, December 5–19, 1970. It appears in the exhibition catalog as either No. 13 or 18, both titled "La Fresneda."

Hermann Schmidt-Schmied
Painter, draftsman.
Initially apprenticed as a blacksmith and auto mechanic.
from 1946 to 1953, he studied at the Mainz School of Art (under Karlo Kuhl and Peter Paul Etz).
In 1954, together with Ferrenc (Feri) Varga (1906–1989) and Jo Brenneis (1910–1994), he traveled to southern France. Through Varga, he also met Pablo Picasso.
from 1955 to 1958, he studied archaeology at the École Antique in Nîmes.
In 1958, he founded the painting school "Atelier du Midi" in Arles.
The artist lived in the southern French town of Saint-Jean-de-Buèges and in Mainz-Gonsenheim.
