A meticulously restored set of six “Lis” chairs in Brazilian rosewood by Niels Koefoed, produced in Denmark in c. 1960s by Koefoeds Hornslet. Koefoed is known to have named his chairs after his children. Lis, released in 1961, is among his rarer designs.
The chair’s frame is a sculptural silhouette – stiletto tapered legs, a gently curved backrest, and delicately shaped bowties comprising each rung of the ladderback design. The chairs are just tall enough to impart a sense of formality without the imposing scale of a traditional high-back design, maintaining a profile suitable for everyday use.
The set has been refinished and reupholstered in a matte black Italian leather, with new 1.5" high density foam cushions. The chairs are comfortable, sturdy, and, of course, breathtakingly beautiful, perfectly representing the full dynamic range of colors and grain patterns seen in old growth rosewood.
