This fabulous 19th century circular-shaped beveled mirror, featuring Champlevé enameling with a floral design, is approx 15 1/2" tall x … Read more This fabulous 19th century circular-shaped beveled mirror, featuring Champlevé enameling with a floral design, is approx 15 1/2" tall x 8" wide and weighs 2.31 lbs. The back appears to be solid brass while the top ornament of a bow with flowers appears to be bronze. The base enamel is a robin's egg blue color with pink flowers and green foliage. Back of mirror has an attachment for hanging on the wall. The beveled mirror has minor silvering issues and one “inclusion” mark that does not touch the surface due to age, still in good condition - refer to pictures - enamel looks wonderful especially for the age.
While champlevé is not exclusive to France - French artisans were prominent in developing and using the technique, particularly during the 19th century.

French champlevé enamel is a decorative art technique where recesses are carved or etched into a metal surface, which are then filled with vitreous enamel and fired. The name is French for "raised field," referring to the parts of the metal that remain as a frame for the enamel design after the process is finished. See less
