A visually striking vintage Herman Miller fiberglass shell side chair featuring original orange-red upholstery, molded Herman Miller markings, and a Summit-manufactured fiberglass shell.
The chair retains its original upholstered shell, black edge trim, and H-base, while showcasing the richly textured fiberglass construction that has made early shell chairs increasingly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts. The warm orange-red upholstery is particularly representative of the late Mid-Century era and contributes significant decorative presence.
Produced during the period when Summit manufactured fiberglass shells for commercial furniture applications, this example retains both the molded Herman Miller identification and Summit manufacturing stamp within the shell. The visible fiberglass strands and organic shell texture remain an important part of the chair’s visual appeal and authenticity.
Unlike many surviving examples, the upholstery remains remarkably presentable and contributes to the chair’s strong period character. The combination of original materials, vivid color, and preserved fiberglass construction makes this an especially appealing example for collectors seeking authenticity over restoration.
