Oversized Mid-Century Modern Italian ceramic figural cat vase, later converted to a table lamp, styled after San Polo, Venice. The sculptural relief and playful striped glaze make it a strong statement piece for an entry console, bar, or layered bookshelf vignette.
The form reads as a tall, architectural vessel with climbing cats in high relief, finished in glossy aqua/teal, pale blue, and pink striping with black linework; fitted with metal lamp hardware and a black base. No maker’s mark was observed, and I did not take the felt off to keep the lamp in the best condition possible; the “San Polo” reference is a stylistic attribution rather than a confirmed maker, but I do feel rather confident in it.
• Material: Glazed ceramic with metal lamp hardware
• Style: Mid-Century Modern
• Period: 1960s
• Country of Origin: Italy
• Attribution: Styled After San Polo (Venice)
Good vintage condition with an appealing overall presentation and light surface wear consistent with age and display. The glaze shows visible crackle/craquelure throughout (a common characteristic of vintage glazed ceramics) along with minor scuffs from handling. This piece was originally a vase and has been modified/converted to a lamp with a later base and socket assembly; no maker’s mark was observed (or looked for).
Measurements: H 25" x W 14" x D 14"
