This elegant container is a 19th-century Chinese document box, once used by a Qing-dynasty scholar-official to store stationery accessories such as brushes, seals and ink sticks. Crafted of pine and brushed with black lacquer, the slender box feels minimal and refined, devoid of decoration save for the brass hinges and button latch, now richly textured with a dark patina.
