A vintage set of 4 brutalist dining chairs in solid oak, made by de puydt and produced in belgium during the 1960s–1970s. With their tall sculptural backs, warm oak grain, carved plank seats and rustic belgian brutalist design language, these vintage de puydt dining chairs have a strong architectural presence and a beautifully grounded mid-century character.
maker: de puydt
origin: belgium
period: 1960s
style: brutalist, rustic modern, belgian mid-century design
materials: solid oak

seat height: 45.5 cm (17.9 in)

the chairs are defined by their unusually tall split backrests, rounded paddle-like vertical forms, exposed horizontal crossbars and solid plank seats with visible round joinery details. The oak has a warm, tactile surface with expressive grain, softened edges and natural patina throughout. Their silhouettes feel sculptural and almost architectural, with a strong vertical rhythm that gives the set a distinctive presence around a dining table.
de puydt, often referred to as kunstmeubelen de puydt, is associated with belgian solid oak furniture from the mid-20th century, especially brutalist dining chairs, armchairs and rustic modern seating from the 1960s and 1970s. As the exact designer and model are not verified, this set is listed by maker and estimated period only.
condition
good vintage condition with signs of age and use consistent with its period. The solid oak shows visible patina, surface wear, light scratches, small marks, colour variation and softened edges throughout. There is visible wear to the seats, high backrests, legs and lower stretchers, as shown in the photos. The wood has a naturally aged surface in places, adding to its rustic character. Structurally solid and suitable for normal use. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
