Pair of Stone Ashlars, Stones with Rings for Tying Up Horses and Donkeys, 20th Century
Antique square ashlars, once used to tether horses, mules, and donkeys. Made from various stones, limestone, sandstone, schist, etc. Usually, the farmer himself would collect the stones of the right size and rough-hew them by hand with a chisel. They are all slightly different from one another but very similar. Some people who were more creative and familiar with the chisel also sketched geometric patterns and/or various ornaments. The rings are secured with molten lead.
