A spectacular patinated bronze bust of a boy, signed by Marie-Anne Cranney-Franceschi, a French sculptor born in 1883. Its composition, facial features, and the anatomical rigidity of the cap are directly based on Italian Renaissance busts of children, as classical busts were a common inspiration during this period. The tilt of the head and the melancholic or reflective expression of the face evoke a delicate emotional quality.
The patinated bronze is finished with a smooth texture that mimics the look of skin, creating a striking contrast between the hardness of the material and the softness of the modeling. The dark patina highlights the details of the sculpture.
It bears the hallmark of the renowned Parisian foundry Susse Frères, established in 1758, which played a pivotal role in the production of high-quality bronze sculptures during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. Signed Cranney Franceschi and inscribed ‘Suisse Fès Edts Paris cire perdue’ (Swiss Made in Paris, Perfused Bronze). This piece has an attribution mark,
