A restrained silhouette combined with warm mahogany veneer gives this coffee table a quiet architectural presence. Produced by ’t Woonhuys, the piece reflects the Dutch interpretation of Art Deco and early modernist furniture, where proportion and craftsmanship were valued above ornament. The original manufacturer’s label remains present underneath the table, grounding the piece firmly in its provenance.
Design
The table is executed in mahogany veneer with a deep reddish-brown tone that reveals a lively grain across the broad rectangular top. Its construction is centred around two vertical supports connecting the upper surface to a lower platform base. This arrangement creates an open composition that keeps the design visually light despite the substantial material. Curved endings at the base introduce a subtle sense of movement and soften the otherwise geometric outline.
Rather than relying on decorative excess, the design draws attention through balance and proportion. The broad tabletop appears to float above the lower shelf, creating a pleasing tension between solidity and openness. from certain angles, the silhouette recalls Dutch Amsterdam School influences, though interpreted in a more restrained and functional manner. The veneering work is particularly refined, with carefully matched grain patterns continuing across the surfaces and edges.
Placed in a seating area, library or reception space, the table functions equally well as a practical centrepiece or as a sculptural furnishing element. Its warm mahogany surface pairs naturally with both modernist and more traditional interiors.
A calm and thoughtfully proportioned design that reflects the quality standards associated with ’t Woonhuys production during the early to mid-20th century.
Condition
The table has been professionally restored in the past and remains in very good condition with minor signs of age and use. The mahogany veneer presents a beautiful sheen and the original ’t Woonhuys label is still present underneath the table. This piece has an attribution mark,
