Impasto Application: Laws utilizes an intense, heavy-bodied paint application. The thick, sculpted ridges and visible palette knife marks trap lighting, giving the artwork a dimensional, sculptural presence. His shapes are deliberately stacked. The smooth background layers contrast sharply with the raw, highly raised texturing of the foreground strokes.
