A vintage black and white photograph of a bighorn ram in alpine terrain, presented in its original walnut-tone frame with brass-tone inner trim and cream matting.
What drew me to this piece was the photograph itself. The ram stands almost square to the camera, filling the frame without losing the mountain landscape behind it. The image has unusual depth for a photograph. The animal feels separated from the background in a way that reads almost three-dimensional from across a room.
The frame is part of the appeal. The wood has that warm honey-brown tone common to quality framing from the 1960s and 1970s, and the proportions work well with the photograph. At 28 inches tall, it has enough size to anchor a wall without requiring a large space.
The photograph appears to be signed, though I have not been able to identify the photographer. The image surface has a visible textured finish.
