An exceptional, rare turn-of-the-century (circa 1900–1920) American Edwardian or Jacobean Revival smoking companion cabinet. This specialty piece is a collector's dream, featuring a beautifully preserved, vibrant red velvet-lined interior split across two distinct functional zones. Standing at a petite 29.25 inches high, its narrow footprint makes it an incredibly versatile accent piece, perfect for a home office, den, or gentleman's library. Crafted from premium quarter-sawn tiger oak, it boasts a bold, highly figured medullary ray grain pattern across its top and side panels. The front panel and top are neatly framed by elegant beaded pearl trim. The cabinet stands on striking, robust solomonic barely twist legs that transition down to block elements and tapered feet, giving it a commanding yet elegant architectural presence.
Interior & Functionality
Upper Storage Well: The top lid lifts on a secure piano hinge with an internal brass lid-stay, opening to a spacious, deep, velvet-lined open compartment. This large upper well is perfectly proportioned for storing humidified cigar boxes or tobacco vessels.
Lower Pullout Drawer: Located independently at the bottom of the cabinet is a single, integrated pullout drawer featuring a divided, velvet-lined interior. The six smaller sections and long front compartment offer organized protection for pipes, clippers, matches, and smoking accoutrements.
Hardware & Facade: The drawer face seamlessly matches the lower beaded trim of the cabinet and features an ornate antique metal drop pull. The main center panel remains static, highlighting a gorgeous raised diamond molding with a central turned boss.
