This stunning piece spent decades in a 104-year old shore house! A beautifully sculptural French Provincial commode featuring a dramatic serpentine silhouette, hand-shaped drawer fronts, and graceful cabriole legs terminating in distinctive claw feet. The dresser's flowing lines continue from the shaped top through the undulating drawer fronts and scalloped apron, creating movement and elegance from every angle.
Particularly noteworthy are the three original key escutcheons centered on each drawer tier, a detail inspired by antique French commodes where locking drawers signified quality craftsmanship. The escutcheons remain intact and provide an appealing focal point against the softly aged painted finish.
The original darkened brass hardware exhibits a rich, timeworn patina that complements the dresser's character. The upper drawers retain simple turned pulls, while the larger lower drawers feature decorative bail pulls with elegant curves and cast backplates, reinforcing the piece's provincial French influence.
The shaped top mirrors the serpentine profile below and showcases a naturally aged surface with attractive craquelure and wear patterns developed over time. Layers of cream and antique white paint have mellowed into a warm, nuanced finish that highlights the dresser's carved details and architectural form.
Raised on rare carved claw feet rather than the more commonly seen pad feet, the dresser possesses a stronger, more refined presence. These feet give the piece a sense of lift and visual lightness despite its substantial scale.

Evidence of long-term use includes craquelure, finish wear, scattered surface scratches, and areas of exposed under layers that accentuate the dresser's sculptural form and architectural details. Original hardware and escutcheons remain in place. A character-rich piece with the kind of authentic wear that is increasingly difficult to replicate. Sellers note: Acquired from a 104-year-old shore house on the New Jersey coast, where it had resided for many years. The dresser retains the relaxed elegance and timeworn character associated with historic coastal homes. less
