A cobalt blue vase rises from a worn tabletop, cradling two long-stemmed roses against a background that dissolves into broken strokes of ivory and pale grey. Suspended just above, a fish hangs weightless in the air, as though gravity has simply forgotten it — unmistakably Talani's signature motif, appearing here with the quiet authority of something that has always belonged. Below, a shallow bowl holds a mound of pomegranates, their skins ranging from ochre to deep burgundy. The surface is built up in loose, searching strokes that give the composition an air of timelessness no tidy still life could produce.
At 46 inches tall and 26 inches wide, this vertical work suits a narrow wall, the space between windows, or anywhere a room needs a calm and considered focal point. The cool palette of ivory, cobalt, and dusty rose will settle into a bedroom, study, or dining room without competing with its surroundings. Frame is included.
Giampaolo Talani (1955-2018) was born in San Vincenzo, on the Tuscan coast, and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence under Goffredo Trovarelli. He became one of the foremost practitioners of fresco in contemporary Italian art, completing public commissions at Florence's Santa Maria Novella station, the Quirinale Palace in Rome, and for the Italian Senate. He exhibited at the 54th Venice Biennale and received the Lorenzo il Magnifico Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015. His work is held in private and public collections across Europe and the United States. This work comes with a certificate of authenticity.
