Produced in London circa 1830, this antique sulphide portrait medallion depicts King Louis X of France ("Louis le Hutin") beneath a domed glass cover within its original wooden surround. The reverse retains its original label identifying the sitter and dating the piece to approximately 1830.
Louis X reigned from 1314 to 1316 and is remembered for reforms that allowed French serfs to purchase their freedom, an early step toward the decline of serfdom in France.

Underside retains identification label that reads: "Antique medallion London-about 1830 Louis X-dit le Hutin King of France-1305 a true Feudal King."
