Talani paints her with the patient attention of a classically trained draftsman, every form grounded in the figure studies that formed the basis of his training at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts. The mood is entirely contemporary: relaxed, unselfconscious, suspended in a particular afternoon light that feels Tuscan in its directness. The board surface gives the flesh tones a warm, slightly matte quality, closer to fresco pigment than to oil's usual sheen, and this material choice keeps the figure from tipping into idealization.
His training in fresco gave him an unusual intimacy with the wall as both surface and setting, and that intimacy shows in the way these figures inhabit their background: at home in a way that purely easel-trained painters rarely achieve. A confident and beautifully resolved figurative work.

Giampaolo Talani (1955–2018) was born in San Vincenzo, Tuscany, on the Tyrrhenian coast, and trained at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts under Goffredo Trovarelli. After completing his training, his work moved from traditional and fresco painting through sculpture and interpretive exhibition, culminating in his passion for public art — most notably a 20-meter bronze sailor installed in the Port of Miami and installations at Berlin's East Side Gallery. He was exhibited at the Venice Biennale (2011), the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi, and the Pinacoteca del Quirinale, and received the prestigious Lorenzo il Magnifico Lifetime Achievement Award at the Florence Biennale in 2015.
