An early work, painted when Talani was already a decade into his mature practice, this beach scene carries the quiet authority of someone who has looked at the same coastline long enough to stop describing it and start distilling it. The Tyrrhenian light he grew up under flattens and intensifies at the same time, and he catches that quality here: the board's surface holding color the way plaster holds pigment in a fresco, dense and slightly chalky, with none of the translucency of canvas. Color is warm and direct, the composition spare, the palette organized around the golds and blues of the Tuscan coast in full summer.
Dating from 1996, this is a historically significant piece in Talani's body of work and an exceptional entry point into his coastal painting practice. It would suit any interior that calls for warmth, light, and the serene presence of the sea.
Giampaolo Talani (1955–2018) was born in San Vincenzo, Tuscany, on the Tyrrhenian coast, and trained at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts under Goffredo Trovarelli. After completing his training, his work moved from traditional and fresco painting through sculpture and interpretive exhibition, culminating in his passion for public art — most notably a 20-meter bronze sailor installed in the Port of Miami and installations at Berlin's East Side Gallery. He was exhibited at the Venice Biennale (2011), the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi, and the Pinacoteca del Quirinale, and received the prestigious Lorenzo il Magnifico Lifetime Achievement Award at the Florence Biennale in 2015. The painting comes with a certificate of authenticity.
