A beautiful antique Old Master-style oil painting depicting Ceres, Roman goddess of agriculture and fertility, reclining against a tree while attended by Cupid.
Painted on an oak panel and presented in an attractive faux tortoiseshell frame, this cabinet-sized work captures the elegant Mannerist style associated with Hans von Aachen and the late Renaissance tradition.
The composition features Ceres holding grapes and wheat, symbols of abundance and harvest, while Cupid sits at her feet with bow and quiver. Workers harvesting in the distant landscape complete the allegorical scene.
