During that time he produced some of the most quietly extraordinary glass objects of the twentieth century, and these lamps are a characteristic example of why his work remains so sought after.

Originally named Model 1853, lamps were designed in 1954. Later, this lamp ‘1853’, was named ‘Fontana’ noting their origin at the company Fontana Arte.

The glass is the whole story. Ingrand understood light the way a painter understands color — not as illumination but as material, something to be shaped and considered and placed with intention. These lamps do not simply light a room. They participate in it.
