An undisputed icon of American fine art, this magnificent bronze sculpture, "The Bronco Buster," is after the legendary father of Western Americana, Frederic Remington (1861–1909).
This dynamic work features a gritty cowboy desperately maintaining his seat atop a wildly rearing, half-tamed horse. The piece includes Remington's molded artist signature along the top of the bronze terrain base.
The Story & Artistry
Originally modeled by Remington in 1895, The Bronco Buster was his very first bronze sculpture and remains the most famous and recognizable Western bronze in history. It revolutionized American sculpture by breaking away from the static, rigid European monuments of the 19th century, opting instead for pure, unfiltered movement.
The piece is a masterful study in kinetic energy and suspense. The cowboy is depicted gripping the horse’s mane and reins with one hand while holding a raised quirt in the other, his body twisting to match the frantic lunges of the rearing bronco. Remington’s brilliant attention to detail is evident across the sculpture—from the swirling, textured chaps of the rider and the frantic expression of the horse, down to the intricate stitching of the saddle and the fine, hand-twisted reins.
