The artistic concept & mythological vision
"olimpo" is not a simple chandelier, but a monumental aerial sculptural installation staging a fragment of contemporary mythology. The profound inspiration evokes the poetic, theatrical, and solemn image of goddesses reaching their hands down directly from the heavens, offering light as a divine and saving gift to humanity. Italian artist and designer dario nasuti, drawing from over thirty years of exceptional mastery in luxury fashion anatomical modeling and haute couture draping, transforms the ceiling into a genuine three-dimensional canvas. The inherent stiffness of the industrial object is completely shattered and erased in favor of a plastic, asymmetrical, and avant-garde dynamism that redefines the boundaries between fine art sculpture and functional design.
the metamorphosis of materials & meticulous creative process
due to its extraordinary level of structural and compositional complexity, "olimpo" requires extremely long production times, patience, and meticulous, demanding manual execution in the artist’s studio in parma, italy. Each individual chandelier is a unique, unrepeatable masterpiece, whose genesis unfolds through extraordinary phases:
the choral sculpting of the hands: the artist carefully selects 8 pvc female mannequin hands, ensuring that each component is entirely different from the others in posture, facial expressions, finger tilt, or the tension of the gesture. The monumental 40 cm metal ceiling rose is hand-perforated to accommodate these anatomical components. Each hand is inserted and tilted at a dramatic angle, calculated to the millimeter to build a radiating choral movement floating in space. The definitive organic merging and structural fusion between the pvc arms and the plate's metal are achieved through the application of professional metal putty, masterfully shaped, smoothed, and finished freehand by nasuti.
the vitreous ceramic-effect finish: once the structural core is consolidated, the entire surface of the artwork undergoes a radical visual metamorphosis. Nasuti applies a complex multi-colored paint finish on a bright white base. The pure pigments are manually dissolved and blended directly on the piece using turpentine, generating fluid drips, soft color transitions, and unpredictable textures. This process triggers a literal surface vitrification wrapping the artwork, granting the hands and the canopy an incredible glossy, vitreous, and reflective sheen that visually transforms the raw materials into the noble, precious essence of glazed ceramics or molten glass.
lighting engineering & chromatic scenography
the engineering of the electrical configuration is deeply embedded within the artwork's poetics and dynamism. Through holes carefully crafted in the palms and fingers of the 8 sculpted hands, ce-certified silver textile-covered cords cascade downwards. The cords are cut and arranged at graduated lengths, establishing a harmonious suspended cascade that completely disrupts any geometric monotony and reaches a maximum drop length of 125 cm. At the tip of each cord pulses a 4.5w warm-light led bulb. True to the eclectic and refined nature of the piece, nasuti intentionally selected bulbs that are entirely different from one another in shape and filament, sourced and selected from international suppliers, turning every single light point into a tiny artifact of global design. Furthermore, 2 recessed 3.5w led spotlights are strategically integrated into the canopy: their downward beams illuminate the shades from above, bathing the structural hands, emphasizing their brilliant surface ceramic sheen, and throwing magnificent, dramatic shadows into the space.
a total bespoke masterpiece
while the prototype measures a maximum total drop of 125 cm, because this is a high-end tailored artwork produced exclusively made-to-order, the overall length of the cascade and the specific arrangement of the cascading silver cords can be fully tailored and agreed upon with the collector or architect to seamlessly fit majestic grand stairwells or monumental living rooms. For a total, unprecedented theatrical impact, the artist strongly recommends pairing this chandelier with one or two coordinating "dolly" wall sconces. Proudly 100% handcrafted in italy.
