What makes this one so rare and special … Read more Serving trays from the Nordic region are very common and highly collectable. What makes this one so rare and special is the fact that it has been so elegantly carved into. During my searches for this wooden serving tray, I found that almost all trays are plain with the exception of metal handles or brackets, but most are not decorated past those features. This 16” by 10” teakwood is hand carved with the scene of a country home that looks newer than the timeframe of the making of the tray itself, which points to it being later carved by its owner. Even more special and cool!
These teak wood serving trays became a household staple all over the Nordic region in the 1950’s and 60’s and this tray was made in Holland but it’s not stamped, which also points to it being older than most. What a cool find!! The details in the carving are my favorite part. It’s so well done, straight and even, like a ruler was used… Its well detailed & and almost perfect. The lightweight and light in color teak wood is durable and easy to cut, and I believe the artist must have known that. See less
