A little history lesson first ...
Founded in Brooklyn, NY in 1939, Culver Ltd. (commonly known as Culver Glass) was an American glass manufacturer founded in Brooklyn, New York in 1939 by Irving Rothenberg. The company produced over 75 glassware patterns, but Culver became famous for its lavish 22-karat gold mid-century modern barware. Their signature "roll-on" gold application was super-heated into the glass, a highly guarded secret technique. The Culver signature appeared on most of its mid-century designs. At first, Culver's mid-century glassware was signed in script. Later, the company turned to block lettering followed by gold foil labels carrying the Culver signature. The company stopped producing its gold overlay pieces in the 1980s and was sold to Moderne Glass Company in the mid-1990s.
