The artistic concept & poetic vision
"realistico" is not merely a lighting fixture, but a luminous sculpture standing at the strict boundary between plastic arts, three-dimensional painting, and haute couture craftsmanship. With this piece, italian artist and designer dario nasuti departs from abstract geometries to embark on a journey into raw, poignant botanical realism. The profound intention is to capture the vital essence of a rose at the exact moment of its peak bloom, while simultaneously celebrating its defense through a thorny, imperfect stem. Nasuti infuses this work with over 30 years of aesthetic sensibility and mastery of anatomical modeling gained in the luxury fashion industry, treating textile matter not as a mere covering, but as a living organic tissue capable of framing and diffusing light.
the metamorphosis of matter: the creative process
each individual piece is an unrepeatable artwork, born from an entirely manual creative process executed in the artist’s studio in parma, italy. The genesis of the artwork goes through stages of extraordinary complexity:
sculpting the stem: the original metal pedestal is completely altered and resculpted. Through the masterly use of structural metal putty, applied and shaped freehand, nasuti grants the shaft a wavy, knotted, and deliberately asymmetric silhouette, recreating the vital imperfection of wild bark. Authentic metal thorns are then grafted and secured onto the stem, emphasizing the wild, defensive nature of the flower.
sartorial petals & crystallization: starting from a 100% pure wool cloth, the artist individually cuts petals into asymmetrical shapes. Each petal is intricately wrapped and hand-stitched with needle and thread around the core of the lamp holder, mimicking the anatomy of a real bud. Subsequently, the wool is literally kneaded and deeply saturated inside a special water-based white iron paint. During the slow drying phase, the artist molds and directs the petals one by one, freezing the wool into an incredibly solid, plastic-like rigidity to the touch, while remaining visually porous and rich in texture.
the freehand pictorial intervention
once the structure achieves its permanent physical solidity, the artwork transforms into a three-dimensional canvas. Nasuti executes a pictorial finish entirely freehand, using countless gradients and pigments. The stem is painted by layering and blending tones of deep green, beige, and earthy brown, while the blossom is enriched with delicate color transitions and subtle veins, typical of real petals under natural sunlight.
engineering & theatrical intimacy
nestled at the center of the rigid floral core is a small 3w warm-light led bulb. When illuminated, the light does not serve to brighten a room, but to radiate the flower from within. It projects the dramatic shadows of the thorns and unveils the pictorial texture and delicate veins of the petals, wrapping the space in an intimate, theatrical, and deeply poetic atmosphere. A collectible piece of functional artwork, proudly and entirely handcrafted in parma, the heart of italian manufacturing heritage.
