Founded in 1830 by Charles Christofle, the company is one of the undisputed French names in fine silverware. The electroplating technique, for which Christofle acquired the patents in 1842, allowed them to distribute consistently high-quality silver plating to a bourgeois clientele who were uncompromising on table setting.
This complete fish service—twelve knives and twelve forks—illustrates the company's penchant for clean lines: tapered, flat, and smooth handles finished with a discreet, unadorned rim. The knives feature the characteristic spatula-shaped blade of a fish knife, while the forks have their four widely spaced tines. Each piece bears the Christofle hallmark—the framed chess knight—applied by the company between 1935 and 1983.
Original leather-lined case, lined with ivory satin embossed with the company name, and gilt brass clasps. A set similar in style to the products of Ercuis or Puiforcat, offering the same understated and elegant tableware.
