an exceptional and highly decorative late 19th century french gilt metal and marble mantel clock, later adapted as an elegant table lamp, featuring a beautifully modelled signed gold gilt metal sculptural figure by adolphe jean lavergne (1852–1901). Presented in exceptional antique condition, this remarkable piece combines sculptural artistry, fine french craftsmanship and timeless decorative appeal. The lamp is fully working.

beautifully modelled in the classical french taste, the sculpture depicts an elegant draped lady accompanied by a cherub, standing gracefully above a substantial verde antico marble pedestal base adorned with ornate gilt metal mounts and scrolling feet. Rich in sculptural detail, the composition reflects the romantic and neoclassical influences popular in fine french decorative arts of the late victorian period, making this both a practical lighting feature and a work of art.

the sculptural figure bears a signature plaque for adolphe jean lavergne, the noted french sculptor known for finely detailed classical figures, adding provenance, artistry and collectability to the piece. The plaque says "beau jour d'ete par lavergne" - which means "beautiful summer day". There is also a signature to the back of the sculpture - lavergne.

to the front of the marble plinth sits the original circular enamel dial, bearing arabic numerals and retaining wonderful period character. The clock houses an 8-day movement with count wheel strike on a single bell, reflecting the quality craftsmanship typical of fine french mantel clocks of the period.

later adapted as a table lamp, the piece retains its original dial and antique character, although the clock mechanism is currently not in working order. As with many antique clocks of this age, someone experienced and familiar with antique clock mechanisms may be able to restore it to working order if desired. In its current form, it remains an exceptionally decorative and elegant statement piece.

the lamp is presented in exceptional antique condition, with beautiful patination to the gilt metal and marble. The sculptural figure and clock face display wonderfully with period charm and remain highly decorative features; however, the clock is currently not in working order and is therefore being sold primarily as a decorative antique mantel clock/table lamp. That said, someone experienced and familiar with antique clock mechanisms may be able to restore it to working order if desired. The overall piece presents superbly as an elegant statement object, while the gathered cream shade complements the design beautifully.
