A fabulous contemporary original panoramic oil on canvas triptych painting depicting reflections of the river thames and the city of london as seen through the glass façade of a modern riverside building on the southwark bank side by the artist lisa lygo whose contemporary art has been exhibited at walton fine arts, knightsbridge, now known as conceptually yours, cca galleries and the mall galleries. It is framed and signed and was painted in 2005.
left panel: reflected view of old billingsgate market, recognizable by its victorian architecture and riverside position.
centre panel: reflections of modern city office buildings, including what appears to be the northern & shell building, with the thames occupying the foreground.
right panel: a warm, golden-toned reflection incorporating london bridge and the riverfront beyond, with small figures adding scale and life.
the artist uses a geometric grid of window mullions to fragment and recombine the cityscape, creating a kaleidoscopic effect of reflections, transparency, and architecture.
the strong contrast between cool blues in the centre and warm yellows/oranges on the right is characteristic of urban-reflection paintings
lisa lygo was born in london and studied painting at the wrexham college of art and the city and guilds of london art school.
she is artist who enjoys constantly evolving new ways of working within the realms of painting. All her work is linked through the prevailing theme of contrasts, whether it be the combining of the past with the present in the theatre/burlesque and london paintings or the contrast between the human figure and decorative elements which is apparent in the fashion inspired oils in painting the urban landscape and entertainments found within the city.
her work has been exhibited at:
