These striking chairs reflect Becchi’s more rustic and organic design language, an exploration of form and material that departs from his well-known modular works and enters a more grounded, tactile sensibility. The Toscanella chairs are constructed from stained ash wood and finished with new straw, redone recently in accordance with the original specifications. Their silhouette is both unexpected and captivating: unlike the common tapering leg, these chairs feature cylindrical legs that become thicker towards the base. This inversion of form introduces a sense of visual weight, giving the chairs a bold and almost sculptural presence, yet one that remains balanced by the openness and texture of the straw. The robust proportions of the legs are mirrored and complemented by the thick weave of the straw, which is applied with an extraordinary level of precision. The weave itself is rich in surface detail, a geometric pattern that reveals itself in both light and shadow. Finished on all sides, including the underside, the execution is refined and meticulous.
