Polychrome delft style. Pair of belgian mid-century ceramic trumpet vase table lamps from boch frères, la louvière, belgium, circa mid-twentieth century. The bases are hand-painted in the polychrome delft tradition — cobalt-blue framework set against a brick-red ground, with stylized flowers, scrolling foliage, and a central flower-vase reserve worked in green, saffron, and red. Lozenge and zigzag borders ring the flared rim and foot; the decoration is consistent across both bases. The underside bears a printed cartouche stamped "brugge boch belgium — handworked," identifying a hand-decorated export line from the la louvière factory.
the trumpet form sits within the long dutch and belgian tradition of delft garnitures, where flared beaker vases were paired on mantles from the late seventeenth century onward. These bases continue the polychrome delft vocabulary that boch carried well into the postwar decades.
topped with new bespoke dupion silk shades in saffron — a hand-loomed silk woven with irregular slubs that give the cloth its distinctive texture — finished with houlès paris double-cord trim in saffron and red that echoes the polychrome palette. Brass fittings and fabric-wrapped cord throughout. Newly rewired for us use.
boch frères keramis was established in 1841 in la louvière, belgium, becoming one of the country's leading ceramic producers with a repertoire ranging from art nouveau and art deco artistic wares to traditional delft-style polychrome export lines continued well into the postwar decades.
