A beautiful vintage Moroccan runner from the mid-20th century, woven in a striking 'God's Eye' rhomboid medallion design — a composition of great symbolic resonance in the Berber weaving tradition. The large geometric eye-shaped medallions in different colors are separated by bold stripes in warm earth tones of brown, rust, and ivory, creating a rhythm of bold forms and warm natural colors that feels simultaneously ancient and completely contemporary.
The 'God's Eye' or 'Evil Eye' diamond format is one of the most ancient protective symbols in North African culture, woven into textiles for millennia as a talisman to ward off harm and bring good fortune to the home. At over 12 feet, this runner brings the warmth and spiritual richness of the Moroccan Berber tradition to any corridor or gallery space. Moroccan Berber rugs carry one of the oldest and most culturally rich textile traditions in the world — woven by the indigenous Amazigh (Berber) people of the Atlas Mountains and surrounding regions for centuries, primarily by women who encoded the symbols, stories, and spiritual beliefs of their communities into every composition. Each rug is a unique expression of its maker's individual artistic voice within a tradition of remarkable depth and variety.
