This is a graphic drawing signed by artist and architect Pietro Gagliardi (1809-1890) showing a Mythological interaction between a centaur and a young archer, likely in reference to Chiron and his student Achilles. The illustration has a medallion shaped composition and was likely done as a fresco study. The work highlights the classical training undertaken by Gagliardi and his mastery of monumental design. The work is signed in the lower right and presented matted and framed.
Gagliardi studied under Francesco Lanci and Tommaso Minardi. During his life he decorated numerous churches and palaces throughout Rome and Italy, establishing himself as one of the foremost fresco painters in the 18th century.
