Large antique cast iron butcher’s pig 1930's.
this delightful cast iron pig dates from around 1930 and would originally have been used as a decorative advertising prop in a traditional butcher’s shop or food business. Standing an impressive 58cm high, it is a big, bold piece with plenty of personality—and a serious amount of weight to match.
the pig is shown standing upright, dressed as a butcher or chef, complete with a tall hat and apron. Its slightly quirky expression and simple, almost naïve styling give it a wonderful sense of humour and charm. Cast entirely from iron, it feels reassuringly solid and was clearly made to last.
the pig retains its original painted finish, with areas of wear, ageing and patina developed over many years. These signs of use are exactly what give the piece its character—nothing is over-restored or overly polished. Any surface marks or paint loss only add to its appeal and tell the story of its working past. Overall, it remains in good original condition and stands firmly and is one of the best examples of this pig i have seen compared to others.
