Made around 1960, these two figures by the Italian artist represent a classical allegory of Music and Poetry. The allegory of Poetry, the figure on the left, is represented by a young man sitting on a rock. He is captured in the moment of inspiration: he holds a pen in his hand and an open book on his knees. Next to him, a small winged cherub seems to whisper in his ear or guide his hand, symbolizing divine inspiration. At his feet, more books rest on the ground. The contrast between the purity of the white porcelain and the golden drapery of her robe creates an effect of extreme elegance and movement. The second figure in the set represents the allegory of Music; it is a female figure of ethereal grace, also seated on a rock formation, elegantly holding a zither or small harp, finely decorated in gold. A putto, in this case, is depicted playing a trumpet or flute, emphasizing the work's sonic theme.
Both figures stand on circular bases adorned with a gilded Greek fret frieze, a direct reference to Greco-Roman aesthetics. They are crafted from the soft-paste porcelain typical of high-quality craftsmanship, with pure gold finishes applied in the third firing.
