"It is therefore not surprising that Meyer-Weingarten also produced a substantial body of still life paintings and continued to explore this subject regularly even in her later years. On small tables, the familiar and readily available objects of everyday use—books, newspapers, fruit bowls, flower vases, bottles, glasses, plates, and cups—are carefully arranged and depicted from a slightly elevated perspective. The abstracting simplification makes the objects appear more as colorful, ornamental surfaces with emphasized contours and less as three-dimensional, three-dimensional forms. However, these are not merely painterly meditations on the simple things in life, their transience, and their beauty" (Ursula Merkel, 2011).


On small tables, the familiar and readily available objects of everyday life—books, newspapers, fruit bowls, flower vases, bottles, glasses, plates, and cups—are carefully arranged and presented from a slightly elevated angle. 1926-30 Apprenticeship as an art glassmaker
