initially studied agricultural sciences.
he then turned to art and attended the düsseldorf art academy, as well as the studios in munich. His first expressive graphics and drawings were created.
from 1927 onward, he lived in berlin and worked there as an illustrator for publications including "der querschnitt," "simplicissimus," and "jugend."
after 1945, he worked primarily as a press illustrator.
