A pair of louis xvi style gilt bronze candelabra, made in the early 20th century. They embody the understated elegance and geometric rigor characteristic of french neoclassicism. Electrified, these pieces combine the splendor of 18th-century decorative arts with modern technology, offering a light fixture that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Shapes & decorations : - shapes the candelabras have an architecturally structured and balanced silhouette, typical of the louis xvi style, with a finely chiseled, stepped circular base decorated with musical instruments, supporting a fluted and tapered central shaft. The four light arms are articulated in a harmonious curve and terminate in candle holders adorned with garlands. - materials the gilded bronze gives these pieces a warm glow and a refined patina. The gilding highlights the richness of the ornamentation while maintaining a certain restraint. The white marble base harmoniously echoes the white of the candles. Electrical adaptation: although originally designed for candles, these candelabras have been adapted for electricity, as evidenced by the candle-shaped socket covers. This carefully executed transformation preserves the stylistic integrity of the pieces while making them functional for contemporary interiors. The blown-glass bulbs replicate the flickering appearance of candles, perpetuating the illusion of vintage lighting. The louis xvi style : the style of these candelabra reflects the neoclassical reaction against the excesses of rococo, favoring straight lines, symmetry, and references to antiquity. The geometric patterns, fluting, and refined ornamentation are all tributes to greco-roman architecture, which was very fashionable during the reign of louis xvi.
