This early 20th century French folding steel table has the right bones for the form: an X-base frame, a tray top with scroll gallery, a lower shelf, and the kind of spare, utilitarian elegance that makes these so useful in a contemporary interior. The scrolled gallery detail keeps it from reading as purely functional, and the dark painted finish has aged well.
