An exceptionally elegant example of French Art Deco decorative ironwork — a hand-forged wrought iron wall mirror in the coveted navette (pointed oval) form, dating to the 1920s or 1930s and executed in the manner of the great Parisian ateliers of the period: Edgar Brandt, Raymond Subes, and Nics Frères.
The frame is entirely hand-forged in blackened iron, with a hand-chiseled reeded texture running continuously along the mirror’s edge — a detail that reveals genuine artisan fabrication rather than cast production. At both the top and bottom, triple volute scrolls are flanked by bundled rod motifs — a signature Art Deco vocabulary drawn from classical architecture and widely employed by the finest French ironwork studios of the interwar years. The composition is perfectly symmetrical and remarkably refined in its proportions.
The original beveled glass mirror is retained, with the gentle foxing and silvering variation that comes with a century of age — prized by collectors as evidence of authenticity and original material. The piece hangs from its original heavy forged iron chain, also period-correct and intact.
The back bears a stamped manufacturer’s number — H 3176 — consistent with catalog numbering used by mid-sized Parisian decorative ironwork ateliers supplying the retail and interior design trade during the Art Deco golden years.
At 35.25” tall, this is a substantial and commanding piece — perfectly scaled for a entryway, powder room, bedroom, or above a console.
