The original frame is heavily weathered, rustic, and visually inseparable from the work, with a surface patina that deepens the overall presence rather than merely surrounding it.

Swane studied at the Technical School in Copenhagen and later at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, with further study in Paris. He became one of the defining Danish figures in the breakthrough of modern painting in Denmark and co-founded Grønningen together with Harald Giersing in 1915.

A work where painterly calm, age and material character remain closely held together.
