He was known for painting seascapes, beaches and barn scenes, similar to this. There is beautiful texture showing in the painting of the long grass giving a feeling of it moving and rustling in the wind, but also very fine detail in parts of the barn. The frame is rustic in finish with knots throughout.
On the back there is a name of Dr. Kaplan and a date of 8/11/75, which I can assume is when it was commissioned for Dr. Melvin Kaplan of UCLA Medical Center in LA, based on where the painting was last purchased from.
Karl Neumann was born and lived in Germany, 1891 and lived there to his death in 1985.
The painting measured approximately 19x15 inches and the frames is just under 26 x 22 inches. See less
