RARE RH BRUTALISM, FUNCTIONAL SCULPTURE
Designed by Timothy Oulton for Restoration Hardware, the Kendari Dining Table is one of RH’s most distinctive and increasingly sought-after discontinued dining collections.
Massive in presence and carved entirely from solid suar wood, Kendari blurs the line between furniture and sculpture. Inspired by the monumental forms and raw materiality of 1970s Brutalist design, the table embraces imperfection, texture, and organic movement in a way that feels deeply architectural and highly collectible today.
Unlike many contemporary dining tables that feel polished or overly manufactured, Kendari celebrates the natural drama of the wood itself — deep hand-chiseled furrows, cracking, knots, tonal variation, and irregular movement are intentionally highlighted as part of the design language.
The juxtaposition throughout the piece is what makes it exceptional. The tabletop is comparatively smoother and lightly distressed, while the monumental legs and sides feature aggressively carved texture that gives the table a primitive, gallery-like presence in person.
This is not a trend-driven RH dining table. It is one of the more artistic and sculptural pieces RH produced during the Timothy Oulton era.

MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTION
• Hand carved from solid suar wood
• Monumental oversized slab-style construction
• Table surface is lightly distressed for a softer tactile finish
• Legs and sides feature deeply hand-chiseled texture and furrowing
• Kiln-dried at low heat to create distinctive cracking, movement, and organic texture while improving long-term stability
• Hand-fired, stained, and sealed through an intensive multistep finishing process
• Finish naturally lightens and evolves over time with exposure to light
This piece is artisan crafted entirely by hand. Natural splits, knots, cracking, tonal shifts, movement, and irregularities are not flaws but intentional characteristics of the design.
No two tables are exactly alike.

• Collector-Level Organic Contemporary — The table feels less like conventional furniture and more like a functional art piece with strong editorial presence.

COLOR OVERVIEW
Distressed Natural Suar Wood
The finish features layered tones of walnut, chestnut, espresso, and weathered brown with dramatic natural variation throughout the grain. The hand-fired finishing process enhances the movement and depth of the wood while emphasizing the carved texture and natural cracking.
Light and shadow interact heavily across the hand-chiseled surfaces, giving the table a constantly shifting sculptural appearance throughout the day.
