* “german-french sculptor, painter, and writer, representative of dadaism and surrealism. From 1905, he studied at the school of applied arts in weimar and the académie julian in paris. In 1907, he had a joint exhibition with, among others, henri matisse in paris. In 1913, he participated in the first german autumn salon in berlin, 1916. Co-founder of dada in zurich. Married the artist sophie taeuber in 1922. Grand prize for sculpture at the venice biennale in 1954. Participated in documenta several times; retrospective at the museum of modern art. His works move "in a peculiar world between dadaism, surrealism, and abstraction."
