A beautifully sculptural pair of vintage Italian Chiavari chairs attributed to Fratelli Podestà, Italy, circa 1950s. These elegant “Campanino” form chairs showcase the lightweight craftsmanship and refined proportions that made Chiavari furniture internationally celebrated throughout the mid-century period.
Crafted from warm-toned hardwood with original woven rush seats, the chairs feature delicately tapered legs, subtly flared crest rails, and graceful curved rear supports that create an airy architectural silhouette. Their restrained yet sophisticated construction recalls the same design language associated with Gio Ponti’s iconic Superleggera chairs.
The chairs retain their original finish and woven rush seating with a beautiful age-developed patina throughout.
Condition: Structurally sound and sturdy for use. The original rush seats show wear consistent with age, including areas of splitting, unraveling, and localized breaks to portions of the woven edge binding, as shown in photos. Despite the cosmetic wear, the seats continue to support weight securely and the chairs present beautifully overall.
An exceptional pair for Italian modern, rustic modern, Mediterranean, wabi-sabi, or minimalist interiors — equally compelling as dining chairs, occasional seating, or sculptural accent chairs.
