This exceptional antique Persian Mohajeran Sarouk rug, measuring approximately 3'3" x 5' and dating to around 1920, is a superb example of the highly sought-after Mohajeran workshop weaving tradition of Western Persia. Mohajeran Sarouks are widely considered among the finest and most elegant Sarouk carpets ever produced, celebrated for their luxurious wool quality, refined drawing, and extraordinary decorative richness.
The rug displays a beautifully balanced allover floral composition set upon a luminous ruby-crimson field of remarkable depth and saturation. The design is filled with graceful palmettes, scrolling vines, flowering boteh-like motifs, and delicate floral sprays arranged with exceptional harmony and fluidity. At the center rests a refined star-like medallion that subtly anchors the composition without interrupting the elegant movement of the field.
Particularly striking is the superb wool quality, displaying a rich velvety texture and luminous sheen characteristic of the finest Mohajeran Sarouk production. The pile appears exceptionally soft and supple, with the wool reflecting light beautifully across the surface, giving the rug tremendous warmth and visual depth.
The color palette is especially sophisticated, featuring saturated ruby red, deep navy blue, soft ivory, celadon green, sky blue, blush rose, and touches of coral and walnut brown. The natural dyes have mellowed gracefully over time while still maintaining remarkable brilliance and clarity.
The midnight navy border provides powerful contrast and frames the field beautifully with finely articulated floral rosettes and palmettes, enhancing the rug’s overall architectural balance and elegance. The back reveals a finely woven structure and excellent craftsmanship consistent with high-grade Mohajeran weaving.
The rug appears to be in near-perfect to perfect condition with full pile throughout, which is increasingly rare for authentic Mohajeran Sarouks of this age and quality. Its fine weave, luxurious wool, exceptional preservation, and highly decorative coloration make it particularly desirable for serious collectors as well as sophisticated interiors.
Comparable antique Persian Mohajeran Sarouk rugs of this caliber, condition, and artistic quality would reasonably carry a retail value in today’s market in the range of approximately $9,000 – $16,000 retail, with especially strong appeal due to the outstanding wool quality, rich saturated coloration, and excellent state of preservation.
